Y^6*X^5/Y*X^7 simplified is X^12Y^5 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Not quite. Think of it as 5 x's cancelling out in both the top and bottom. If that happens, what are you left with below?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

...I should say 'numerator' and 'denominator' instead of 'top' and 'bottom'. Makes me sound more mathy! ;)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lmao

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm not sure, math gives me a headache.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Or I could say it this way: You're doing it right with the Y's, because you're cancelling the smaller number of Y's from the larger amount in the numerator. Do the same with the X's, only you'll be left with X's in the denominator and not the numerator. By the way, I'm in Calc III and math STILL gives me a headache! :) You can do it!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Where are you from and why do you love math so much that you willingly signed up to a Calculus III class?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Heh... Colorado. I wanted to study languages, but all the money is in math and science. So I'm going for engineering.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

But languages are useful? what language in particular did you want to study?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Arabic. I already speak it. I worked as an interpreter for refugees, but couldn't ever make more than $300 a month. I still love it, but with a family to take care of, I needed more security. Honestly I have no natural ability with numbers. It's all from sheer discipline. That's why I tell anyone 'you can do it!'

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So what's your opinion on life, how come we must study something we do not like and invest our time in it in order to be stuck doing something we didn't want to do just to be able to function on society?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is there any way to escape this cycle? I don't feel like studying anything and just live the moment?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Unfortunate, isn't it? I'm learning to like it. In truth, I hate the math part of engineering but love the science. So it's really enjoyable, I just like to gripe. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well when I mean study i mean like being in that environment of being tested constantly and cramming info that I might never use?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I find more usefulness in buying books on amazon and reading them at my own pace.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I want to escape the US? what's a good way to be able to live somewhere, maybe move to Thailand or Panama? and just earn 1-1.5k a month and just relax in some bungalow in my time off.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah, that's hard. All I can say is that all this teaches you to 'think' a certain way. How to approach problems logically and systematically. I'll probably rarely use the actual exercises I'm doing. But I do find that after this long, I actually begin to approach problems in life differently (like building, measuring things). All that's useful critical thinking.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Gotta run to the store... but good chatting with you!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ben and jerry's please

OpenStudy (anonymous):

my favorite flavor is pistacchio, thanks.
