OpenStudy (tester97):

You have a coupon good for $5 off the price of any large pizza. You also get a 15% discount on any pizza if you show your student ID. How much more would you pay for a large pizza if the cashier applies the coupon first? $.75 $0.00 $.05 $1.05

OpenStudy (tester97):

@wolfe8 can you help me?

OpenStudy (wolfe8):

So you're comparing if you use the coupon first to if you use your ID first. Let x be the original price So coupon first: x-5 then discount of 15% making you pay 75% (75/100)*(x-5) ID first: (75/100)*x then coupon (75/100)*x -5 Find the difference.

OpenStudy (tester97):

this looks like the same exact thing. for both the ID first and the Coupon first. so im confussed,

OpenStudy (wolfe8):

Notice the brackets :)

OpenStudy (wolfe8):

For the coupon it can be written as: 75x/100 - 5

OpenStudy (tester97):

so i do (75/100)*x then (75/100)*x-5 and subtract the two?

OpenStudy (wolfe8):

No you do what I wrote O.o

OpenStudy (tester97):

ok let me try.......btw i really suck at this :\

OpenStudy (wolfe8):

It's ok. Start by opening up the brackets

OpenStudy (tester97):

wait so would the answer be a 75 cents difference?

OpenStudy (wolfe8):

If you did the calculations right, yep. But I can't check cuz I haven't done it myself

OpenStudy (tester97):

oh ok but im not sure if i did the calculations correct hopefully i did thanks wolfe :)

OpenStudy (wolfe8):

Can you show me what you did?
