OpenStudy (danielbarriosr1):

y-5=-3/5(x+6)

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

are you wanting it in slope intercept form ?

OpenStudy (danielbarriosr1):

yes

OpenStudy (danielbarriosr1):

can you please help me

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

slope intercept form is y = mx + b. therefore we have to get y by itself...but first we need to get rid of the parenthesis by distributing the -3/5 through the parenthesis. Do you know how to do that ?

OpenStudy (danielbarriosr1):

yes multiplying it by the reciprocal

OpenStudy (danielbarriosr1):

?

OpenStudy (mertsj):

1. Use the distributive property on the right side 2. Add 5 to both sides

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

multiply the -3/5 by everything in the parenthesis.... y - 5 = -3/5 (x + 6) y - 5 = -3/5 * x + (-3/5) * 6 y - 5 = -3/5x - 18/5 now we want y by itself, so we will add 5 to both sides y - 5 + 5 = -3/5x - 18/5 + 5 -- combine like terms y = -3/5x - 18/5 + 5/1 -- common denominator is 5 y = -3/5x - 18/5 + 25/5 -- combine like terms y = -3/5x + 7/5 ==> slope intercept form

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

I listed all the steps but if you have any questions, please ask them

OpenStudy (danielbarriosr1):

ok i got it thanks
