Hinduism in Southeast Asia gave birth to the former Champa civilization in southern parts of Central Vietnam, Funan in Cambodia, the Khmer Empire in Indochina, Langkasuka Kingdom, Gangga Negara and Old Kedah in the Malay Peninsula, the Srivijayan kingdom on Sumatra, the Singhasari kingdom and the Majapahit Empire based in Java, Bali, and parts of the Philippine archipelago. The civilization of India influenced the languages, scripts, calendars, and artistic aspects of these peoples and nations. source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hinduism_in_Southeast_Asia

This statue was probably next to or on the outside of a Hindu temple, which is huge in connecting believers with their gods. The hindu temples are basically built with a high central tower in their centers that is supposed to serve as high enough to reach the heavens and thus the actual gods .. These gods would then take form in physical statues, sort of inhabiting the space, and is central in Hindu practice - believers perform 'puuja' or devotional activities to the gods like dancing, etc, to curry favor. They also use the statues as a place to give the gods offerings like fruit or gifts.

This statue may actually be the blue-skinned god of many forms, Shiva, but I'm not sure.
