Steve, Jerry, and Ron were paid $29.25 to remove garden gnomes. They each worked four hours, except for Ron, who was 45 minutes late. How much of the $29.25 should Ron receive?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

29.25 x fraction of total time worked by Ron 29.25 x (time worked by Ron / time worked by everyone in total)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

convert everything to minutes for convenience

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Steve and Jerry worked a full 4 hours each. Ron worked 45 minutes less than 4 hours, so he worked 3.25 hours since 45 minutes is 0.75 hour. The 3 workers worked a total of 4 + 4 + 3.25 hours = 11.25 hours. Now divide $29.25 by 11.25 hours to see how much the pay per hour is. Then multiply the per hour pay by 3.25, which is how many hours Ron worked.

@mathstudent55 and @BangkokGarrett Can you help me with a couple of more?

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

If a photo measuring 4 inches by 6 inches is placed in a photo frame that is 2 inches wide all around, what percent of the framed photo is the photo itself?

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

(A) 24% (B) 30% (C) 42% (D) 50% (E) 56%

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

Yes I have copied and then pasted it. So i am pretty sure that those are the correct numbers.

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

I think I understand it now.

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

I'll draw it.

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

Well from what i think its that the frame itself is 2 inches wider than the photo. So probably it is 2inches greater in both sides.
