Help!!! Medal and Fan

OpenStudy (abb0t):

If this is a medical emergency, please call the ambulance.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No its not a medical emergency

This is not difficult. You can eliminate cubic and quadratic is usually 2, and quartic is basically the same thing: \(\sf (a^2)^2\)

zepdrix (zepdrix):

So to classify a polynomial, we simply look at the degree of the `highest power` of x. So in this case it's a 5 on the largest x, yes? Do you know which `word` corresponds to a 5th degree polynomial?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No sorry I am struggling with math

zepdrix (zepdrix):

Quadratic ~ 2nd degree Cubic ~ 3rd degree Quartic ~ 4th degree Quintic ~ 5th degree

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

zepdrix (zepdrix):

So try to remember that the coefficients don't affect the degree at all. Notice that we only looked at the 5 on the x, we didn't care about the fact that it had a -6 in front.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So would the answer be quintic

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@zepdrix you there?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@RANE can you check and see if im right

OpenStudy (rane):

the answer is quintic

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes thank you

zepdrix (zepdrix):

oh sorry, i ran off D: ya good job

OpenStudy (rane):

yw :) but far most you should be thanking @zepdrix who helped u, i just gave u the answer but he's/she's the one that should be credited

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes thank you both @zepdrix you helped me a lot
