!!! Two Medal Question !!!

OpenStudy (tanya123):

- What were Lincoln's and Johnson's plans for Reconstruction? How were these plan alike? How were these plans different? - What groups were important in the South during Reconstruction? Explain how each group influenced Reconstruction.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Both Lincoln and Johnson were good president’s and their plans for reconstruction were very similar. They did have their differences however. Lincoln’s plans were that in order to “go back to the US” you needed a general amnesty which could be achieved by those who took a oath of loyalty to the US and promise or pledge to obey all of the federal laws persisting slavery. However; the high confederate officials and military leaders were TO BE excluded in this process. After one tenth of the voters in the 1860 election had taken the oath within the state; then that would launch them into gear to be part of the US and get them their representatives back. Johnson’s was similar. However it had some differences as stated. For example; anyone who took a loyalty oath would be pardoned. No pardons would be given to any high confederate officials OR anyone that has property that is higher than 20,000 dollars. In order for a state to be readmitted; they needed to abolish slavery. Finally; the state would need to “rip to shreads” the secession ordinance before it could be readmitted.

Yep!

Sadly; I would say the Carpetbaggers and Scalawags. Not completely sure but i'm confidient in those 2.

OpenStudy (tanya123):

@mannymercado can you briefly explain "How Lincoln and Johnson plans were different"

OpenStudy (angeleyes108):

"How were Lincoln and Johnson plans different?" Lincoln put a lot of thought into his plan. Even before the war ended, Lincoln was planning the reconstruction. His original idea for the plan was that it would be offered as a peace plan for the Confederates. He hoped it would also further his Emancipation Proclamation. It worked for the most part. Johnson's plan included two goals. First, he wanted to restore the states as fast as possible. Second, political power should be only for the higher class of people. No slaves were allowed to be in power. Andrew Johnson didn't support slaves at all.

OpenStudy (angeleyes108):

For the most part, the difference was basically their thought process and who supported, and didn't support, slaves' rights.

OpenStudy (tanya123):

ok, @Angeleyes108 how were both plans alike ?

OpenStudy (angeleyes108):

Sorry I didn't respond @tanya123 I haven't been online. If you're still looking for the answer I'd have to say that Lincoln's and Johnson's reconstruction plans both focused on pardoning the Confederate states and restoring the union quickly. Sorry about the delayed time. :)

OpenStudy (tanya123):

Well I don't need it anymore but thanks =) but if you can ? -> Identify the factors led to the end of Reconstruction and explain how each factor influenced the end of this era. @Angeleyes108

OpenStudy (angeleyes108):

1. Withdrawal of Union troops from the south, leading to return of local control. 2. Return of southern states to the Union i.e. restoration of southern political leverage in the US. 3. The KKK, terror. 4. Carpetbagger corruption, giving reconstruction a bad name. (How they effected it I don't know.)

OpenStudy (tanya123):

you mean influence... no problem ! I have couple more questions if you don't mind...(don't worry I'll give a medal for each question you answer)

OpenStudy (tanya123):

- How did the lives of Americans change during Reconstruction?

OpenStudy (tanya123):

- Describe the rise and fall of Populism.
