Solve. 3^x–5 = 9

Assuming you meant, (3^(x-5)) = 9. We can rewrite 9 as 3^2 So 3^(x-5) = 3^2 Once the bases are the same, we can eliminate them, and just deal with the exponents. (x-5) = 2 x= 7.
