5/2<4x-3<= 8/3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Welcome to OpenStudy! When dealing with an equation between two inequalities, you have to deal with them equally. The first step is to add +3 to each side 3+5/2 < 4x <= 3+8/3 Does that first step make sense?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

are u sure??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I am. Do you have a question about it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well thanks for answering

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh you're not done yet. You then have to divide 4 to each side.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but why sould i add +3 before 5/2 and 8/3??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It doesn't matter if it's before or after. It's all commutative from the commutative property.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait shouldnt i do 5/2<4x-3/2??

OpenStudy (phi):

5/2<4x-3<= 8/3 is short for two separate relations 5/2 < 4x -3 and 4x - 3 ≤ 8/3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes how can u solve it??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how can i solve 5/2<4x-3 ???

OpenStudy (phi):

for the first equation, do as Kirby was showing (though he was solving both at the same time... which you can do if you are an expert) 5/2<4x-3 the idea is to add +3 to both sides, like this: 3+ 5/2 < 4x -3 + 3 now simplify both sides can you do that ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok wait and now what??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well what now can anyone help me??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

help me please??
