Add the following polynomials, Write your answer in descending powers of x. x4 -3x + 1, 4x2 - 2x + 8, and x3 - 9

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[x ^{4}-3x+1 + 4x ^{2} -2x+8 + x ^{3}-9\] First thing to do is collect like terms, do u know how to do that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry no

OpenStudy (anonymous):

like terms are common individual numbers which may/may not include coefficients and pronumerals, let me show you. \[x^{4} + 2x^{4} = 3x ^{4}\] I am able to add those two terms together because they have the same power. Same thing applies for all other terms with powers. If the term just had as a x in it 3x - 5x = -2x u can minus it same thing for numbers.
