You want to get all the 'z's on one side and all the numbers on the other. Subtracting 1 will leave you with z/6 = z/2 + 1, so we have all the numbers on one side. Subtracting 'z/2' will give you z/6 - z/2 = 1, so we have all the 'z's on the other side. We need to multiply out by 6 and then by 2, and then simplify the 'z's we have left (we should get -2z = 6) and from there we simplify have to divide by the coefficient of z (-2) in order to get our solution.
