A plant grows 16 inches every 4 months. How much will it grow in a year? A. 32 inches B. 48 inches C. 64 inches D. 96 inches

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Just multiply 16 by 4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

64

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Exactly!

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

yo how many months are there in a year ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A year has how many months?

OpenStudy (pratyush5):

we know that 1 year = 12 months so we know that, in 4 months = 16 inches in 12 months = 16/4 X12

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You should use ratios here.

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

however jenna's logic is good :) just work it wid corrent numbers

OpenStudy (pratyush5):

@Jenna_Da_Nerd You dont just multiply 16 by 4. you get the wrong answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If 16 inches = 4 months Then ? inches = ? months?

OpenStudy (pratyush5):

@AnImEfReaK is correct.

OpenStudy (pratyush5):

@sammy34daisy what answer do you get ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I looked at it wrong sorry. 12*(4*16) =? (* is the same thing as x)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\(\dfrac{16}{4}\) = ?/months in a year.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

remember to always do whats in the (these) first :)

OpenStudy (shubhamsrg):

16 inches in 4 months, so that is about 120 days more or less 1 year means 12 months, or 365 days (probably) in 120 days you get 16 inches. convert these inches into kilometers first. so in 1 day you'll get k/120 kms, where k is the equivalent of 16 inches, in kilometers multiply that by 365 , you'll get your answer in kilometers convert it back into inches now note that in practice this question is flawed, because all the months don't have equal number of days and here we assume there is uniform rate of growth of the plant. So the answer you'll get by the above mentioned method will be more appropriate and this shall yield you an answer very close to one of your choices(it won't match any) Just compare and the ones which is lesser and closest, is the one. Glad if I could confuse you. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\(\dfrac{16}{4}=\dfrac{?}{how~many~ months~ in~ a~ year}\)
