This isn't a question for school, but I would like to hear some other opinions. Do you think that the MMR (15 month shot) is the cause of rising autistic rates?
I don't know. My sister had a really bad allergic reaction to it. But increasing autistic rates, I'd have to know more abouy it. What can you tell me about it?

The rising autism rates are because we are learning more about autism. We can now distinguish better between disorders, especially in neurological disorders, because we know more about them, how they work, and how they present. As for things like this causing it, I HIGHLY doubt it. I would guess the reason people often think the two are related is because at that age it starts becoming easier to identify features of autism, as the children have started walking, talking or making noises, and reasoning skills. Features that previously weren't really shown, so they couldn't be compared to be "normal" or "abnormal". The fact is, giving children vaccines keeps them healthier, not makes them sicker. Kids who get the vaccines are less likely to spend time home sick, getting mumps, measles, the flu, even the common cold, as often as other kids. They are less susceptible to getting these diseases. And, when you don't get sick as often, you don't require medications and antibiotics as often. Frequent use of antibiotics causes urinary tract infections, and antibiotic resistant illnesses.
I have heard of a lot of parents who notice the symptoms of autism not long after their child receives the shot. I actually have had a few autistic traits after I had the shot. I had some neurological issues to begin with, but the MMR seemed to have triggered it.
