According to Newton’s Second Law of Motion, an object will accelerate if you apply what kind of force? A. inertial force B. frictional force C. balanced force D. unbalanced force

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i already got the answer but thanks/

OpenStudy (anonymous):

An inertial force is a sort of "fake" force that only arises in accelerated reference frames (like centrifugal force) A frictional force is one that is proportional to speed and opposes velocity. A balanced force is when there is no overall force An unbalanced force is where there is some non-zero overall force

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but can you help me on another one.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A force of 45 N is exerted on an object, resulting in an acceleration of 5 m/s2 for the object. What will the object's acceleration be if the force doubles? A. 2.5 m/s2 B. 5 m/s2 C. 10 m/s2 D. 20 m/s2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[F = ma\] \[2F = 2ma\] If the force doubles: Does the mass change? Does the acceleration?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i really need help on this please!! umm i belive that the mass changes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, the mass of something always stays the same (unless bits fall off or something). If force doubles, then mass times acceleration also doubles. If that's true, and mass has to stay the same, what happens to acceleration?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it will increase right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes it will. So you know the answer is C (doubles) or D (quadruples). Which do you think it is?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

c.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yep :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

HEy thanks!!!!
