how cancer cells differ from normal cells

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well there are a lot of differences but one key difference is that cancer cells proliferate continuously whereas the somatic cells don't . Somatic cells which are differentiated (specialized) have a limited proliferation capacity like 60-70 divisions after which they stop proliferating . This is called hayflick limit. The somatic cells get transformed to cancer cells when they loose control over their proliferation due to acquisition of mutations in genes which regulate the cell cycle.
