Why does water freeze when thrown in the air when the air is cold?

OpenStudy (cybershadow):

Maybe because when water is thrown in cold air, the particles of water come in contact with the particles of the air and due to thermal difference between them heat flows from Water particles to the air particles and the water particles freezes.I m just guessing :P

That's what I was thinking, but I needed a way to explain it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Must be the Mpemba effect then. I'll have to read up on it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Because maybe the air tempreture is the freezing point of water.
