The function f(x) varies inversely with x and f(x) = 0.9 when x = 0.5. What is f(x) when x = 1.5? (Points : 5) 0.02 0.03 0.3 0.75

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So the only trick here is the f(x) varies inversely! Do you know what that means?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What happens with f(x) if you triple the value of x?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well x would equal 1.5 so it woudl increase the value of f(x) ?.... @Andras

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, that is the trick

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x and f(x) are inversely related. This means that if you increase x than f(x) is decreasing. So if you triple x, what happens to f(x)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It will decrease! f(x) will decrease

OpenStudy (anonymous):

To the third of the original value. Do you know the answer now?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

0.02? @Andras

OpenStudy (anonymous):

idk. I don't even now how to solve the orignal one

OpenStudy (anonymous):

:(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x=0.5 it is change to x=1.5 That is exactly triple (0.5*3=1.5) f(x)=0.9 when x is tripled f(x) becomes third (inversely related) 0.9/3=0.3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OHHHHHHHHHHHH I UNDERSTAND. You have to do the same thing to both. i get it now! Thanks !!!
