find the product : (12x^3y-9x^2y^2z)(2xyz)

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

distribute and expand

This is a fun little question. You have to multiply 2xyz to each of the different terms 12x^3(2xyz) - 9x^2y^2z(2xyz) = ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Remember that when multiplying exponents, you have to add them.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

This will give you 24x^4yz - 18x^3y&3z^2 Does that make sense to you?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so after i multiply the terms and get the answer i add ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You can't add because they are not like terms. They cannot combine together. So no you can't subtract the terms.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait can you explain that to me one more time ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well you can look back XD First you have to multiply both terms by 2xyz. When you multiply the exponents, you actually add them. The constant (2) is multiplied normally. You then get your answer :)

thanks

Welcome :)
