Okay people. Here is the rule: Whenever you are posting or writing about a particular work, whether it is here or in a school paper, or whatever, ALWAYS include the author. Always, always, always. It is the only way to make clear what you are talking about. For example, what if I just said "what is The Dakota Trail?" I'm sure I'd get about a dozen people telling me about the Dakota Rail Regional Trail when what I really wanted to know what The Dakota Trail was in the novel, The Dakota Trail by Ralph Compton. Once again, ALWAYS state the author when you are talking about a written work.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes SIR!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, half of the time we are not really given the author of what poem or short story we are reading.

OpenStudy (jagatuba):

I have yet to find an author who does not sign his work. If you read the work assigned you would know the author. If your assignment says, discuss the poetic devices in The Road Not Taken, it is assumed that you know how to open your textbook and find the poem without knowing that it was written by Robert Frost. Therefore, if you don't know the author, you likely haven't read the material. Not trying to lecture, but as a teacher, it is a pet peeve of mine when a student claims that I did not give them the material that a question covers. It's always all in the readings. We won't assign you something that we have not either covered in class or read in the textbook or assigned material.
