Not quite. You may just have confused yourself. The number is "ut" or "tu"? Please define. I want to play with the greater digit for a moment. Without ANY information, this digit can by any of: 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 If it is the 10s digit, then it can't be "0", since we don't normally call that a 2-digit number. If it is TWICE the other digit, it has to be EVEN and can't be 0. We're down to these: 2, 4, 6, 8 If it is 3 greater than the other digit, it has to be at least 3. 4, 6, 8 That's pretty awesome. We eliminated 7 of 10 original choices just by thinking about it logically. If we get the greater digit as anything but these three, we did something wrong. Now, let's think about the lesser digit. With no information... 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 Again, if it's the 10s digit, it can't be zero. If the other digit is 3 greater, it must be less than 7 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 If the other digit is twice the size, it must be less than 5 and not 0. 1, 2, 3, 4 Well, we have four candidates for the lesser value and only three for the greater.
