anyeone

thomaster (thomaster):

how many meters are in 1 km?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know the answer, but I still don't understand How to get it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1,000

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is that what I would divide by then?

thomaster (thomaster):

So when you have 1.69 meters, how many km to you have? To go from meter to km, just divide by 1000. the other way around (km to meter) = x1000

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1,690

thomaster (thomaster):

Yes but 1.69 is in meters, not km. So you have to divide by 1000 in order to convert meters to km

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that would be 1.69

thomaster (thomaster):

\(\large\dfrac{1.69}{1000}=1.69???\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1,690 I mean

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I converted 1,690 and it turned into 1.69

thomaster (thomaster):

where did you get the 1,690? I thought we had 1.69 meters and we need to convert it to km?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

By diving 1.69/1000 and then I converted it to km which turned out to be 1.69

thomaster (thomaster):

dividing 1.69/1000 = converting to km. You don't have to do anything after you divide by 1000

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh so 1,690 would be correct also When I have another problem like this would I do the samething?Like Which of the following is not the same as 5.63 grams? Would I generally do the samething?Because these problems are VERY confusing for me

thomaster (thomaster):

1,690 is not correct. When you divide 1.69 by 1000 you'll get 0.00169

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh sorry...I've been multiplying this whole time instead im sorry lol.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

0.00169 would be correct*
