could someone give me a quick lesson on figure of speeches
This may help you ,check it out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Figure_of_speech
I can explain this to you if you would like me to. @Jimboslice
please do...
Ok. First Personification.
Personification is just giving a human like trait to an inanimate object. For example: The wind whispered to me. ~Everyone knows wind can't whisper The tree hugged me in tough times. ~We know trees can't hug. Do you understand?
@Jimboslice
those are good examples & easy to understand.
Good so we will move on to simile. Very easy.
Simile compares two objects using "like" or "as". Example: The cat chased me like a cheetah chasing a gazelle. Or The rock was as still as silence itself. Got it @Jimboslice
got it
okay now for analogy.
An analogy is a figure of speech that equates two things to explain something unfamiliar by highlighting its similarities to something that is familiar. This figure of speech is commonly used in spoken and written English. For example: Questions and answers, crying and laughing, etc. - See more at: http://fos.iloveindia.com/#sthash.uhyISFB3.dpuf
Got it?
@Jimboslice
???
I understand
Ok, now metaphor.
Metaphor is saying one thing is another using was or is. Ex: That cat was a cheetah chasing me! or You were a snail in the race
got it?
Yes. will you help me on one of my questions
Sure thing!
Thanks, okay so one of my figure of speeches come from a Bob Marley song. "Preacherman, don't tell me, Heaven is under the earth. I know you don't know what life is really worth." Honestly I can't decide
Heaven is under earth is a metaphor I believe. What was your question?
that was the question I didn't understand where that quote was under witch figure of speech
Hard to say. I think it can be multiple things. Metaphor, Hyperbole
