Simplify: 2/3+1/5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

would it be 3/8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, it would be 13/15

OpenStudy (studygurl14):

\[(\frac{ 2 }{ 3 })\frac{ 5 }{ 5 } + (\frac{ 1 }{ 5 })\frac{ 3 }{ 3 } \rightarrow \frac{ 10 }{ 15 } + \frac{ 3 }{ 15 } = \frac{ 13 }{ 15 }\]

You have to have common denominators. so 3 and 5 becomes 15. What ever you do to the bottom you have to the top, so now you have multiply your numerators by the same thing you multiplied at the bottom. So 2/3 become 10/15 and 1/5 become 3/15. 10/15 + 3/15 = 13/15.
