The probability that Tony joins the Music club is 0.2 and the probability that he joins the Science club is 0.15. If the probability that he joins both clubs is 0.02, find the probability that he joins at least one of the clubs. @ganeshie8

@nubeer

OpenStudy (marigirl):

have u got a final answer to compare to?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

answer: 0.33

OpenStudy (marigirl):

I think I have a fair idea. Lets do P(A)=0.2 (Music)

OpenStudy (marigirl):

I think I have a fair idea. Lets do P(A)=0.2 (Music) P(B)=0.15 (science) P(A and B)=0.02 (both)

OpenStudy (marigirl):

now we want to find the probability that he joins at least ONE of the clubs. note that this is referring to P(A) the music club or the P(B) Science... but we dont want to calculate the prob of him joining both

OpenStudy (anonymous):

0.2+0.15-0.02?

OpenStudy (marigirl):

so we can do P(A or B) = P(A)+P(B)-P(A and B)

OpenStudy (marigirl):

as kryton1212 pointed out too

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i understand now, thank you:)

OpenStudy (marigirl):

oh wait that was you.. awkward. ...lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

haha, i have another questions. Can you teach me?

OpenStudy (marigirl):

okay ill try.

OpenStudy (only4u):

its ( 0.2+0.15)-0.02=0.33
