Systems of Equations May someone check my answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@KirbyLegs i got A would that be correct or is that wrong

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Not exactly. There is an extra step in this problem that wasn't needed in the last.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2x -8y = 8 -3x + 2y = 8 In order to cancel out the "y," you have to make them cancel each other out. In order to to make -8 and 2 cancel out, you have to multiply the 2 by 4 Once you do that, you have to multiply the entire equation by 4 2x-8y-8 4(-3x+2y=8) 2x - 8y = 8 -12x+8y = 32

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Then you cancel out the y Add vertically. . . -10x = 40 x = -4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so for the last step what you basically did was change the sign into division

OpenStudy (anonymous):

When I had -10x = 40 Yes I divided both sides by -10 to separate the "x" x = -40/10 x= -4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so that would leave me with answer choice C

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Correct :)
