I can't figure out how to factor this (16x^2 - 8x + 1)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(4x-1)(4x-1)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Can you explain the steps?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the way i figured out was first starting with the +1, means that the single number must be +/- 1 as there are no other number that can be times together to get 1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

from there because it was -8x i knew that both 1's must be negative

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so when you listed all of the factors of 16 i picked 4+4 but i could not figure out how to make that negative?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

for -8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(4x-1)(4x-1) 16x^2 -4x -4x +1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

when cancelling it out

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks I think i get it now:)
