How does endocytosis compare to osmosis? A. Both processes move molecules from areas of higher concentration to those of lower concentration. B. Both processes move molecules from areas of lower concentration to those of higher concentration. C. Endocytosis moves molecules from areas of lower concentration to those of higher concentration. Osmosis moves molecules from areas of higher concentration to those of lower concentration. D. Osmosis moves molecules from areas of lower concentration to those of higher concentration. @GirlByte @Lethal @bibby PLEASE HELP if you don't mind I have this question & one more

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@liddoislander its C .

OpenStudy (liddoislander):

The organelles responsible for protein synthesis are the ________. A. ribosomes B. vacuoles C. chloroplasts D. centrioles

OpenStudy (anonymous):

remember ribosomes are Protein manufacture factory And Nucleolus is ribosomes manufacture factory.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

got it??

OpenStudy (liddoislander):

thank you !!! :))

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No problem :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Are there more questions ???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

option C says that the molecules are transported from a region of lower concentration to higher concentration which means it is ACTIVE TRANSPORT and needs energy ie ATP . So do you think endocytosis is powered by ATP.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Endocytosis is an energy-using process by which cells absorb molecules (such as proteins) by engulfing them. It is used by all cells of the body because most substances important to them are large polar molecules that cannot pass through the hydrophobic plasma or cell membrane. The opposite process is exocytosis. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Endocytosis

@sarah786 , i went through the wikipedia page , except for the first line the term energy is not used anywhere else. Moreover the article doesn't highlight in which step of endocytosis is energy is used . At least as far as i know for the pinching off of newly formed endocytic vesicles from the plasma membrane you need energy in the form of GTP. Please have a look at the image which i have uploaded . dynamin is a GTPase an enzyme which hydrolyzes GTP to utilize the energy stored in it. GTP just like ATP is used by cells in energy requiring processes. I am sorry this is in- depth biology but it gets you the right answer. So endocytosis does require energy but this energy is not utilized for transporting molecules against the concentration gradient.

thanks @CHANDANALA ^^
