need help on a hard problem.. can anyone give me some help..?

\[-x + 5y = 14; (-5,-2) \] Write the equation of a line that is perpendicular to the given line and that passes through the given point.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A. y= 5x - 27 B. y= -1/5x - 27 C. y= -1/5 x - 15 \ D. y= -5x - 27

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

first write the equation in slope intercept form 5y = x + 14 y = (1/5) x + 14/5 what is the slope of this line?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the slope of this line is damn idk... :(

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

its the coefficinet of x slope = 1/5 the general form of the line is y = mx + c where m = slope and c = intercept on y-axis

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

now the slope of a line perpendicular to this line = - 1 / m so for our line the slope is - 1 / (1/5) can you work that out?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

umm honestly not really?? ...
