We want to get the solution from both equations, so Take any of the two equations and solve for any variable, let's do it for "y" from the second equation since it looks easier \[y=21+2x\] Then substitute that for any "y" in the other equation \[9x+8(21+2x)=18\] All that's left is to solve for x and you got your answer
