Please explain also, i don't understand how to do this.
OpenStudy (superdavesuper):
Slope of straight line between 2 pts (x1, y1) and (x2, y2) = (y1 - y2) / (x1 - x2) okay?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
ok
OpenStudy (superdavesuper):
So u need to calculate slopes of the two lines. first for line BE, what are the coordinates of pt B and E?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
(3,0) (4,5)

OpenStudy (superdavesuper):
Very good - so can u calculate the slope for BE using the above eqn plz?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
(3,0) and (4,5)= (3-0)/(4-5)
OpenStudy (superdavesuper):
Nope read the slope eqn again plz
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Oh sorry! (3,4) and (0,5)=(4-5)/(3-0)
OpenStudy (superdavesuper):
No need to be sorry at all! u got it this time :) So what do u think the next step is?

Make it equal?
OpenStudy (superdavesuper):
Nope there are two lines in the question right? ;)
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Right.
OpenStudy (superdavesuper):
Found the slope for that line yet?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
No, i'm confused on how to work it out.

Oh sorry I thought u got it already so i was waiting for u to update. OK let's see...
The other line is AE so what are the coordinates for pt A and E?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
(0,0) (4,5)
OpenStudy (superdavesuper):
And the slope of AE is....bear w me plz - we are almost there :)
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Idk how to find the slope, i'm confused on that.
OpenStudy (superdavesuper):
Scroll up n read the slope formula again :)

(0,4) and (0,5)= (4-5)/(0,0)
OpenStudy (superdavesuper):
Check ur eqn again....something is not right there
OpenStudy (anonymous):
i did, it seems right?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
i keep getting the same thing.
OpenStudy (superdavesuper):
I am sorry....the two points should be A and E...

OpenStudy (superdavesuper):
So the coordinates are (4,5) and (0,) sorry I didnt notice u got the wrong coordinates before.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
ok, now what?
OpenStudy (superdavesuper):
(4,5) and (0,0) so what is the slope for AE?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
idk how to work this out though.
OpenStudy (superdavesuper):
Same way u did before for the other line:
"Oh sorry! (3,4) and (0,5)=(4-5)/(3-0)"
But now the coordinates are different so u have to re-calculate

(0,4) and (0,5)= (4-5)/(0,0)
OpenStudy (superdavesuper):
Ah there is ur problem: its NOT (0,4) and (0,5) - it should be (0,0) and (4,5)
OpenStudy (anonymous):
(0,0) and (4,5)=(0-5)/(0,0)
OpenStudy (superdavesuper):
Top part is right....check the bottom part plz
OpenStudy (anonymous):
x1, y1) and (x2, y2) = (y1 - y2) / (x1 - x2) (0,0) and (4,5)= (4-5)/(0-0)

OpenStudy (superdavesuper):
:( it should be (0-5)/(0-4)....do u understand it?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
oh ok, i see what i did wrong,
OpenStudy (superdavesuper):
OK go back to ur Q and see what they are asking? :)
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Yes, so the slope would be 5/4?
OpenStudy (superdavesuper):
Yup yup n u have to scroll ALL the way up to find the other slope that u have calculated earlier ;)

OpenStudy (anonymous):
so the overall answer is 5/4?
OpenStudy (superdavesuper):
Nope - what are the slopes for AE and BE?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
i'm sorry, i'm confused.
OpenStudy (superdavesuper):
Take ur time...go up a lil bit...we just calculate the slope of AE and it is 5/4 right?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
yes.

BE is 3/1?
OpenStudy (superdavesuper):
U calculated the slope of BE earlier...scroll up n find it.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
BE is 3/1?
OpenStudy (superdavesuper):
Sorry I need to scroll up n find it too....is it -1/3? Plz check savannah :)
OpenStudy (anonymous):
i got 1,3?

OpenStudy (superdavesuper):
We are looking for the slope of line BE so it is a number; not a coordinate. U have calculated it earlier. Is it -1/3?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Sorry, i got 1/3? not -1
OpenStudy (superdavesuper):
U did this:
(3,4) and (0,5)=(4-5)/(3-0)
So is it 1/3 or -1/3?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
i think its 1/3
OpenStudy (anonymous):
wait no, -1/3

Sorry, computer crashed.
OpenStudy (superdavesuper):
No prob....thought i lost u though lol
OpenStudy (superdavesuper):
OK where were we? we need the slopes of lines BE and AE right?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Slope of BE -1/3 Slope of AE is 5/4?
OpenStudy (superdavesuper):
So what is slope of BE / slope of AE?

i don't know what to do know.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
now*
OpenStudy (superdavesuper):
(-1/3) / (5/4)
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Ok, how do i find the overall slope?
