Quote from "The Raven:" Then, methought, the air grew denser, perfumed from an unseen censer Swung by Seraphim whose foot-falls tinkled on the tufted floor. 'Wretch,' I cried, 'thy God hath lent thee - by these angels he has sent thee Respite - respite and nepenthe from they memories of Lenore! Quaff, oh quaff this kind nepenthe, and forget this lost Lenore! Quote the raven, 'Nevermore.'

OpenStudy (anonymous):

kinda like the 5 senses right touch fell smell...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah, so first find them in the poem.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

denser unseen quaff ,would angles be one?, memories

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I do not think angels and memories are sensory words.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

denser unseen quaff nepenthe tinkled tufted respite

OpenStudy (anonymous):

are those right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Most are right, except respite, nepenthe, quaff, I think.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

denser unseen tinkled tufted are these enough to explain how the sensory words connect with specific characters and settings from the poem. or do i need some more?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how bout nevermore? is that one?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No. When you identity sensory words, you can think what sense do they respond. For instance, voice responds hearing. And you must know the meaning of the words before you identity if they are sensory words.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh ok i get now

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Please be quick! It is going to 24:00 in China!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The raven and wetch are not sensory words.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

denser - unseen - tinkled - tufted- methought- Lenore-

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Methought and Lenore are not sensory words. All the name of place, animals, plant abd people are not sensory words. It is too late in China, can I go to sleep and help you tomorrow?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

kinda hard dont you think?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry... idk what a lot of the words mean :/ im really sorry

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Some questions to think about as you work on the answer: How do the sensory words change or add to the meaning of the passage? How do the sensory words specifically connect to a character(s) and to the setting? Do the sensory words indicate any foreshadowing or symbolism? What meaning can you gain by reading between the lines" or reading for deeper meaning?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you... i'll try to help, but i can't garuntee i'll get it right.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OK np thanks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yw ty

OpenStudy (atlas):

sensory words are those words which make you actually visualise or feel the scene

OpenStudy (atlas):

like denser, perfumed etc...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

AHhh ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

denser - unseen - tinkled - tufted- perfumed

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah... those are the words i came up with that were sensory.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

now how can i use em to descibe the passage?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

idk what the passage is saying.. but im going to take my best guess... i think that it is saying that he summoned something, like some kind of spirit or being to give him some kind of potion to forget the memories of his lost love. or something like that.. i have not read this story, but for that excerpt, and that is kind of what i got out of it... he was scared of whatever he summoned and he was under the influence of some kind of drug or drink that he took to try to forget something about the characher lenore
