In the figure below, if m∠a = x + 3, which of the following represents m∠b? x + 3 183 – x 180 – (x – 3) 180 – (x + 3)

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

angles a and b are supplementary which means the 2 angles add to 180 so x + 3 + b = 180 now just make b the subject

OpenStudy (anonymous):

|dw:1390071814787:dw| it would be 180-(x+3)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

*tilts head confused*

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol ok a line is 180 degrees and A and B make up 180 so we have to make it into a equation= 180=a+b.... now we replace for what we know.... we know a=x+3 so the new equation is 180=a+3+b.... are you with me so far?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok :D now we know what 180 is (180+a+3+b) BUT they want to know what be is.... so what do you think you would do to solve for b

OpenStudy (anonymous):

isn't b=a?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

soooo confused!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@hanifah no... if the angles for a and b were BOTH 90 degrees (right angle) then yes b=a

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok @cutecupcake... we need to solve for b... so in order to solve for be we have to subtract the total (180) by a (x+3).. thats how you will get b.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh my bad, ill step out :)

OpenStudy (ikram002p):

lets agree to this a+b=180 x+3+b=180 b=180-(x+3)

If line m intersects line n to form congruent angles of a linear pair, what is the relation between line m and line n?

OpenStudy (ikram002p):

1, 2 r angles of a linear pair 1+2=180

OpenStudy (ikram002p):

but u need 1=2 right ? so 2 of <1=180 <1 = 90

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Line m bisects line n. Line n bisects line m. Line m is perpendicular to line n. Line n and line m are skew lines.

OpenStudy (ikram002p):

so m must be perpendicular to l

OpenStudy (ikram002p):

Line m is perpendicular to line n.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohhh okay i get u thank u for the drawing btw it helps alot!
