prove that a parallel line to one side of a triangle divides the other two side proportionally. be sure to create and name the appropriate geometric figures

please help ive been stuck on this test for a few hours.

That is not necessary, it will have to be in the actual calculated midpoint of the triangle for it to happen.

Oh wait, sorry misunderstood the quesiton

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh okay so then what do i do? im sorry im just burnt out

See, if a line is parallel to the triangle, and interesects both the sides, it is very clear that they must be proportionally divided, i can't use the draw thing for some reason so ill just use words. When you draw a triangle, and a line parallel to it, you'll see that you can actually use transverse line to find out that the angles are same, thus creating similar figures, prove it using that law if you know about it? http://www.mathwarehouse.com/geometry/similar/triangles/images/side-splitter/side-splitter-full1.png I give you this for basic guidance. Sorry but hope you get it :)

alright thank you
