help? thank you!

Ok. Let's tackle this. What is the degree measure of a straight line? 180 degrees. So You know the two interior and exterior angle values add up to 180. So your equation is (2x + 18) + (4x + 38) = 180. Now, you can simplify and solve. What would you do next in the equation?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its 2 equations?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, just one. the left side is the x side and the right side is the 180 side. So I would combine like terms--getting to 6x + 56 = 180. How can you isolate the variable now?

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

well you can use the exterior angle of tirangle is equal to the sum of the opposite interior angles so (2x + 10)+(x + 30) = 4x + 30 now collect like terms and solve for x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x=10 thanks

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

thats correct...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks for finishing my response @campbell_st.

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

thats ok @aurorablue01 I just felt there was an error in your reasoning... and some on the numbers..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I haven't worked with triangles and stuff in a while... like 2 years. I've been stuck with vectors in pre-calc and that kind of stuff.

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

ok.... well good luck with vectors.. and calculus
