please help with functions

OpenStudy (ranga):

Is this question {(–8, –6), (–5, 2), (–8, 1), (7, 3)} related to the links or is it a separate question?

OpenStudy (ranga):

No matter what the value of x is, the y value is the same (-6). This is a horizontal line passing through the point whose y value is -6. It is a function and the equation is f(x) = -6. Multiple x values can have the same y value and still be a function. But no x value can map to TWO DIFFERENT y-values. Then it will not be a function. Can you find which link represents Multiple points mapping into -6 and is labeled a function?

OpenStudy (ranga):

Yes.

OpenStudy (ranga):

C is mapping one x value to multiple y values. So that is not the answer. I think I can do one more but I will return cuz 3 other people have tagged me.

OpenStudy (ranga):

[(-2, -5), (-1, -3), (-2, 6),(5, 7)] Here you see the same x value, -2, map to two DIFFERENT y-values: -5 and 6. That is a function no-no. It fails the vertical line test. So this is not a function. Find the link that shows each of the mapping [(-2, -5), (-1, -3), (-2, 6),(5, 7)] and says it is NOT a function.

OpenStudy (ranga):

The x-values are being mapped onto the y-values. So the arrow should go from the x value to the y-value. No, it is not C.

OpenStudy (ranga):

yeah.

alright, thanks so much for the help! @ranga
