Why is interphase the longest stage and Cytokinesis the shortest stage of Mitosis?

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

thats because interphase is d growing phase of the cell in which a lot of activities take place like transcription translation replication etc etc.... while in cytokinesis...the cells formed during mitosis just separate....so it is smallest

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

and Welcome to Openstudy!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you so much! @shrutipande9

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

happy 2 help..:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Maybe you could help with one more? What is the difference between the stages visually? I know the stuff inside of the cell starts by being scattered and then they group up and duplicate and then split up and completely separate. But what are the things inside the cells called? @shrutipande9

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

the thing that separates and splits and duplicates are the chromosomes...chromosome is a long thread of DNA packed very very tightly..

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

next time post a new question in a new link..:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay I will :) Thank you! @shrutipande9

OpenStudy (shrutipande9):

ur welcome again...:)
