x = 2y -5 2x+3y = 4

x = ? y = ? @ayeshaafzal221

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Simplifying x = 2y + -5 Reorder the terms: x = -5 + 2y Solving x = -5 + 2y Solving for variable 'x'. Move all terms containing x to the left, all other terms to the right. Simplifying x = -5 + 2y

OpenStudy (anonymous):

For the second one: Simplifying 2x + 3y = 4 Solving 2x + 3y = 4 Solving for variable 'x'. Move all terms containing x to the left, all other terms to the right. Add '-3y' to each side of the equation. 2x + 3y + -3y = 4 + -3y Combine like terms: 3y + -3y = 0 2x + 0 = 4 + -3y 2x = 4 + -3y Divide each side by '2'. x = 2 + -1.5y Simplifying x = 2 + -1.5y

I still don't understand how you get x and y by simplifying the last step u did?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its simple

OpenStudy (anonymous):

u know how x= 2y-5 u just substitute that in 2x+3y=4 where x is. so it will be 2(2y-5)+ 3y=4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then u solve it 4y-10+3y=4 4y+3y=14 7y=14 y=14/7 y=2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

for x u know ur first equation x=2y-5 you just substitute y value u found which is 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x=2(2)-5 x=4-5 x=-1
