Can someone help me with standard form...

write the equation in standard of the line perpendicular to y-1=x+3 passing through point 5,5

standard form is y=mx+b to solve your equation, you're first going to subtract 1 from both sides, so you'll have: y = x+4 To find a line perpendicular to a given one, you need to take the negative reciprocal of your slope Because there is no coefficient (m) in front of x, you know that m=1 (if you have a coefficient of 1, you don't need to write the 1) 1 = 1/1 The negative reciprocal of 1/1 is -1/1 or -1 Now you have your m for your new equation, but you do not know b for this equation Plug in the point you were given and the m you just found m = -1 x = 5 y=5 5 = -1*5 + b 5 = -5 + b add 5 to both sides to get b by itself 10 = b your final equation is: y = -x+10
