What happens to a cell when it is placed in a isotonic, hypotonic, hypertonic or solution. (Please tell for each.)

Isotonic solutions -> Nothing. There is no difference between concentration's gradient and so no net flow of water from cytosol [liquid part of cytoplasm] to the solution in which cell is immersed occurs. Hypertonic solution-> Water diffuses out of the cell, and the cytoplasm shrinks and gets more concentrated. Hypertonic solution -> The cell will release water causing the cell to shrink and shrivel. What happens when cells are place in different kinds of solutions. Plant cells placed in a hypertonic solution will undergo plasmolysis, a condition where the plasma membrane pulls away from the cell wall as the cell shrinks.
