which graph best represents the function y= sqrtx+4?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a.)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

b

OpenStudy (anonymous):

c

OpenStudy (anonymous):

d

OpenStudy (wolfe8):

Try putting x=0 and see what is the y-intercept

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then it would just be y=sqrt 4

zepdrix (zepdrix):

Which is.... 2 right? That gives you one of the coordinate pairs of your function. It passes through (0,2).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the answer would be c?

zepdrix (zepdrix):

Mmm ya good job! The + 4 is shifting the function 4 to the left.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you help with another one?

OpenStudy (wolfe8):

Wait what? I thought the equation is square root of x plus 4. If x is 0 then the intercept is 4

OpenStudy (wolfe8):

@zepdrix @bangbang559

OpenStudy (anonymous):

soooooooo the answer isn't c??

OpenStudy (wolfe8):

No. The graph will go through (0,4) instead of (0,2)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so its a?

OpenStudy (wolfe8):

Something is wrong. I can't find that graph. Can you re-check the equation? Is it square root of x and added to 4 or the square root of the sum of x and 4?

zepdrix (zepdrix):

It's y= sqrt{x+4}

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a

zepdrix (zepdrix):

Err at least I assume so :P heh

OpenStudy (anonymous):

b

OpenStudy (anonymous):

c

OpenStudy (anonymous):

d

OpenStudy (wolfe8):

Ah my bad then. What you did is correct. Sorry the way you wrote it was confusing. You should have written it as Zep did: y= sqrt(x+4) The answer is C.
