Well, the rule in Spanish is quite simple :) Perhaps not as simple as in French, in which the stressed syllable is always the last one. Still, not too dificult! I just deducted the rule, so I'm sure whether your textbook or the notes you took explain this differently, but surely this will help you with the activity! In Spanish, the stressed syllable (la sílaba tónica) is always the penultimate one, EXCEPT WHEN another syllable carries the graphic accent ("tilde" in Spanish - i.e. áéíóú). In that case, the syllable containing the accented vowel is also the stressed syllable. In some cases, the vowel in the penultimate syllable will be accented as well, and this does not change the story. These four examples that will make you see this a bit more clearly: mochila (backpack): mo-chi-la The stressed syllable is "chi" (penultimate one) perro (dog): pe-rro The stressed syllable is "pe" (penultimate one) camión (truck): ca-mión The stressed syllable is "mión" (graphic accent on ó) pérdida (loss): pér-di-da The stressed syllable is "pér" (graphic accent of é) Hopefully this helped you a bit! :)
