My friend (who's 14) was wondering what jobs are available to kids her age that aren't like the typical babysitting, dog walking, lawn mowing, etc, jobs
Any suggestions or know of any places that higher 14 year olds? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Well when I was 14, I started a job at a horse barn and I am still continuing it. I get $25 a day, but I work around 4-5 hours in the morning. Your friend can try local barns. Honestly, it is super hard for a 14 yr old to get a real job.
Great! That sounds like a good idea! She LOVES horses lol! Thanks so much! :D
Haha okies! Your welcome! btw love the pic <3
Thanks lol :D I'm counting down the hours until the next episode xD
Hi, Your state government hopefully has a Department of Labor (maybe not named exactly that). Their website probably will tell you the rules about which jobs you may take at your age. So search the web using Google for "XXXX Department of Labor." (e.g., "Florida Department of Labor."). But you might have better luck creating your own job with self-employment. Here are some random ideas: Single persons and families might be legally allowed to hire you for yard work, car washing/waxing, house cleaning, errand running (groceries, packages to the post office, etc.), dog bathing or walking, and babysitting. I think your chances of getting this kind of work are better than for any other work, especially if your parents and closest neighbors need this work done. You or your parent should ask your neighbors whether they need any of those things done. Also, check whatever websites people use in your area to advertise that kind of work. For example, visit www.craigslist.org and, on the resulting home page, click on your geographic location on the right hand side. Then look at the bottom of the resulting web page; click on the word "gigs" to see the temporary work that people are offering; if you call some of them, you should ask whether they care about your age. If you have access to a bicycle, you can travel pretty far in search of work. That means you might be able to reach an area of single homes where they don't have the yardwork provided by any homeowner's association. Perhaps you could print nice art or clever sayings on t-shirts, or make your own art and craft items. You could try to sell those items at a swap meet, flea market, or on eBay.com. This is questionable because you could actually lose money if you buy the materials and then few people buy the items. I guess you could do bake sales or a lemonade stand. That requires buyers to trust that you will not give them food poisoning accidentally. Conceivably you could tutor kids your age and younger in school subjects. You would need an excellent grasp of the subject, plus a knack for explaining it well (you would have to try tutoring to learn whether you have that skill). But the subjects that kids usually need tutoring for don't occur until well into high school. If your parents own a business, they may be able to hire family members younger than the normal legal age. Where I live, I think parents can legally hire their own kids once they reach age 12; the rules might be different where you live. Are your parents interested in starting a business of any kind? Ask them. Other than that, I'm guessing that the only occupations that companies can legally hire you for are modeling, acting, and newspaper delivery. I suspect that it's difficult to get work doing any of those things nowadays. For babysitting training, search the web for something like "babysitting course, [Insert City[, [Insert State]" or "babysitting class Berea". Even if you find nothing, you can call your nearest hospital and ask whether they offer certificates for completing a CPR course (to revive a child who stops breathing). You can show that certificate to parents, to make them more comfortable with the idea of hiring you. Maybe you also can discuss any websites/books you've read about how to babysit, to demonstrate that you want to do a proper job. Best of luck - Compassionate
14 year olds cant get to many real jobs to due with labor laws it depends on what state your in but where i live cant really work until your 16 and then you have to get a work slip this is for Oklahoma at least tell her to go to stores around her area and ask if they have any jobs available for a 14 year old other then that just go door to door ask if there is anything she can do for money also there's another problem that places like people to have experience which teenagers dont have so they most likely wont hire her but good luck on helping her!
