Medal+Fan. please help. **view attachment in reply below**

OpenStudy (fernandez555):

problem

OpenStudy (anonymous):

One way to solve the problem is to plug in the values to see if they equal each other.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Add 5 to both sides and then square both sides {sqrt(x+6)}^2= (x+6)^2

OpenStudy (mertsj):

You can solve the equation and check the solutions in the original equation or you can test the given answers in the equation and see if they make the sentence true.

OpenStudy (fernandez555):

@Mertsj @cjr712 @KirbyLegs I keep going back to option C. but i dont know. really rusty on all these concepts, its been a year.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sqrt(x+6) = x + 6 when sqrt(A) = A, A is either 0 or 1.

OpenStudy (fernandez555):

@Mertsj ill just apply each given answer

OpenStudy (mertsj):

That's the simplest thing to do in this situation.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

when you square a square root, whatever is inside comes out, so you'll have x+6 on the left side and (x+6)^2 on the right side which when you foil out it comes out to x^2+12x+36

OpenStudy (fernandez555):

@cjr712 i am still stuck with C

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That's because it says non extraneous solutions

OpenStudy (anonymous):

one of the numbers in C does not work

OpenStudy (fernandez555):

@cjr712 what do you mean?

OpenStudy (fernandez555):

@cjr712 ahhhh hold on then. redo.

OpenStudy (fernandez555):

@cjr712 im not understanding. neither -2 or -6 work.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-6 works

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sqrt of 0 is 0 -5 is -5 and -6+1 is -5 so -5=-5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

be careful of the wording make sure you understand what they're asking so you can answer correctly

OpenStudy (fernandez555):

@cjr712 so then it is -2? since it is saying nonextraneous and 2 does not work

OpenStudy (fernandez555):

-2**

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-2 is extraneous since it doesnt work. -6 is non extraneous. that is the meaning of it,

OpenStudy (fernandez555):

@cjr712 ohh, i reversed their meaning

OpenStudy (anonymous):

:)

OpenStudy (fernandez555):

@cjr712 ty!!

you're welcome
