OpenStudy (anonymous):

is it even possible to go faster than the speed of light?

OpenStudy (lastdaywork):

In general, physicists would say "No" Although I am still trying to understand why? :)

OpenStudy (joannablackwelder):

I think physicist say no because we have never observed it.

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

Not possible

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@UnkleRhaukus maybe it could happen with all the new technological advances every year, we might get closer and closer

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

only massless particles can travel at the speed of light, any particle with mass can only approach this speed ,

OpenStudy (anonymous):

maybe using the splitting of atoms like the atomic bomb used by einstein to send the rocket at extreme speeds @UnkleRhaukus

OpenStudy (lastdaywork):

@_vvifibasedgod_ Which grade do you study in ??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

8th @LastDayWork

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

it would take an infinite amount of energy to get a massive particle to reach the speed of light.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@UnkleRhaukus it's possible to create an endless atom split that can be refueled like a coal train

OpenStudy (lastdaywork):

Personally, I would call it a wise strategy to not accept the general notion (which most people take for granted) and study with an open mind. Consider waiting for some time (in your case, a few years maybe) - the answer might approach you. :)

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

even an infinitely long reaction chain can only speed up the particle to almost the speed of light. It is not possible to go faster

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@LastDayWork the answer seems like it's coming close bc there's a chip that willbe implanted into the brain so everyone will understand everything because it has google progammed into it

OpenStudy (lastdaywork):

^^ Your statement has an implicit assumption that there would still be at-least one person who found an answer to every question (without using the chip) :D

OpenStudy (lastdaywork):

Maybe that one person could be "You" :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

very inspiring! @LastDayWork i might research and find a way to make it possible! thanks!

OpenStudy (lastdaywork):

Well, I can also try to point you in the right direction. Read - http://www.feynmanlectures.caltech.edu/I_04.html It's the favorite chapter of my favorite book. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks! i will do even more research after i finish the last little bit of hw @LastDayWork

random231 (random231):

@_vvifibasedgod_ for that u hav to prove einstien wrong!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

As an object approaches the speed of light, its mass rises precipitously. If an object tries to travel 186,000 miles per second, its mass becomes infinite, and so does the energy required to move it. For this reason, no normal object can travel as fast or faster than the speed of light.

random231 (random231):

wat peter higgs tried to do but failed still he got the nobel prize.!!!!

random231 (random231):

ure right @SimonRiley

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@random231 einstein did not set a law of the speed of light.

random231 (random231):

@_vvifibasedgod_ einstien did set the theory of relativity! and i dont think there is really something called LAW of speed of light!! IF there is would u be kind enough to state it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

because to prove someone wrong about a theoretical equation or law of space and time is impossible because theories are open thus creating it in a way that the public can use some ideas to make a actual discovery. it is the united states, the free world, right? @random231

random231 (random231):

u dont get me ! a particle having mass reaching light speed violates einstien's theory of relativity.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@random231 but it is possible bc new tech every year

random231 (random231):

haha @_vvifibasedgod_ tech!tech!n tech! relativity helped developed tech if u prove relativity wrong then all the tech in the world will go wrong!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@random231 not all of the tech in the world was based on relativity... not at all...

random231 (random231):

why not the definition of length comes from relativity. if that goes wrong!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@random231 yes the definition of length comes from relativity but the length on space, time, and matter is endless. it expands every second. yes, einstein's relativity theory is quite hard to process because of the many steps, but you also have to take into consideration how many scientists all around the globe is creating secret technological advances daily. russia probably has invented such a machine but never exposed it and never will until everyone is ready.

random231 (random231):

okay i hav nothin more to say but good luck!!! rofl
