this is what i found. CONNOTATIONS and DENOTATIONS Every word has two categories of meaning: a denotation and a connotation. The denotation of a word is the literal meaning, what you would find if you looked it up in the dictionary. The connotation of a word is the implied meaning, and this is usually what is communicated through the use of a particular word. For instance, what different images do you get from "child" and "young lady"? You could use either word to refer to a girl between infancy and adolescence, yet the word "child" implies immaturity, maybe even irresponsibility. Whereas "young lady" sounds like a little adult, giving us the impression of maturity and composure. Their denotations are similar in meaning, but their connotations are very different. Connotations will also vary among people with different backgrounds, so keep that in mind when you're considering your audience. Look at the following words and try to identify the differences in their connotations: party / celebration hole / pit break / recess video game / entertainment center

im going to post more question. are you good at simile, metaphor, and personification. Questions? im stuck.. if you could help id be most appreciative..=) Each quotation below contains a figure of speech. Type the exact words that make up the figure. Then type s for simile, m for metaphor, or p for personification. -"Now when the young Dawn showed again with her rosy fingers, . . ." -". . . to take arms against a sea of troubles, and by opposing end them?" - ". . . motionless as a cloud the . . . man stood . . ." - "On the moors the hare is running races in her mirth." - ". . . to run over better waters the little vessel of my genius hoists its sails."
