A) is a right triangle

OpenStudy (anonymous):

To classify the nature of triangle, the following test would do: i) If the square on longer side is equal to sum of the squares of other two sides, then it is right triangle. ii) If the square on longer side is less than the sum of the squares of other two sides, then it is an acute triangle. iii) If the square on longer side is greater than the sum of the squares of other two sides, then it is an obtuse triangle. This is confusing me, going by that almost all of the are acute?

Answering the first question, adding the smaller 2 values and comparing it with the larger one is how you find it out. If it is larger than the longest side then it can form a triangle. And yes, it has to be a right angled triangle, as you can use the Pythagorean triangle rule.I assume you can do the rest. Now to the second question, if you have to find whether its obtuse or acute, use the theorem again, take the shorter sides and find the hypotenuse, now compare that with the possible angle. this might help http://www.algebra.com/algebra/homework/Triangles.faq.question.457725.html

Alright, I'll give it a shot. Thank you
