Use the remainder theorem!!
OpenStudy (aravindg):
If f(x) is divided by (x-a) then the the remainder is f(a).
random231 (random231):
can u do the rest?

are you sure, they didn't mention that in my lesson?
OpenStudy (aravindg):
I am sure :)
OpenStudy (anonymous):
k
OpenStudy (aravindg):
You will notice that you get the same answer by long division process.

oh ok

The remainder theorem gives you the answer in a single step ;)
OpenStudy (anonymous):
oh, cool!
random231 (random231):
yeah ure right ofcourse @AravindG
OpenStudy (aravindg):
:)

so how does it work with my problem

If f(x) is divided by (x-a) then the the remainder is f(a).
HERE f(x)=given polynomial. a=1
So f(a)= the remainder
random231 (random231):
well put 1 in place of x in the given function!
OpenStudy (aravindg):
ie just put x=1 and you will get the answer.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
sorry im still confused.... could you plug in the numbers and let me solve it?
OpenStudy (aravindg):
Simply put x=1 in the polynomial! dont expect us to do all the work!

oh, i thought yall were saying something totally different! lol
OpenStudy (aravindg):
lol
OpenStudy (anonymous):

Post your qns separately.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
would i use a 3 instead of 1 this time?
OpenStudy (aravindg):
Use -3

i see thx
OpenStudy (aravindg):
It should be of form (x-a)
Here its (x+3)=(x-(-3))
So a=-3
OpenStudy (anonymous):
thats all i needed
OpenStudy (aravindg):
great :)
