-x\7=88
Want me to walk you through it?
Joey Hill the Fourth: What is the end goal of this math problem?
Yes please
No doubt SLP recognizes that you, Joey the Fourth, want to solve for x, but it'd still be a good idea for you, Joey, to include those instructions when you post problems.
Okay thanks
-x/7 = 88 this is pretty easy if you think about it :) so let's solve it... -x/7 = 88 So we know, just from reading this, that X divided by 7 is 88. However, there is a negative symbol... (ugh I just hate negatives!) For the first step, let's pretend the negative doesn't exist: x/7 = 88 that already looks easier, right? Ok, now what do you do to cancel out division? You multiply! x/7 = 88 x/7 * 7 = 88 * 7 x = 616 OK so let's not forget about the negative sign... Now knowing that we have to re-incorporate the negative sign again, do you know what to do next? (btw this is just my way of solving it)
Thank you. Very helpful
Ok so let's just finish solving it So we have x = 616 Which is correct since 616/7 = 88 BUT the problem has a negative so let's put it back in So let's look back at the original problem -x/7 = 88 Let's substitute X for 616 -616/7 = -88 That is NOT right Let's try putting in -616 instead --616/7 = 88 (two negatives make a positive) 616/7 = 88 CHECK right! Ok so x = -616
Hope this helped :)
It did. Thanks. Can you help me with another problem please?
