What rhetorical device if any, does "We're bakers. But we're parents too." use?
A rhetorical is a type of persuasion. It's basically saying that, "we can be A and B, too." Antithesis - makes a connection between two things - “That's one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind.” Analogy - compares two different things that have some similar characteristics - He is flaky as a snowstorm.
I feel like it's not good enough to be either though.. it doesn't really seem like one of them :/
What do you think it is, dear?
I'm really not sure.. my English teacher grades super harsh so I have to be 100% sure.. idk I need to write paragraphs about an advertisement and one has to be on a rhetorical devise, and this is the best one by far but i can't find any.. and the others i found don't have any either! I'm so stressed!
What are your other choices? Can YOU choose your own device?
Yes, your choices would help. There is a false contrast being refuted, that they cannot be really parents if merely bakers. It is a little like refuting a "straw man," an extreme position your opponent does not actually uphold.
this is the ad. i think we are actually supposed to do something the picture represents.. like could the picture be a metaphor or metonymy or synecdoche or something?
Clever ad. They want you to infer that they take special care in their baking because they have children, like many of their customers do. Synecdoche is "using a part for the whole," like asking for a girls "hand" in marriage. I forget what "metonymy" is, however.
