So the distance between the x values is 5 - (-6) = 11 the distance between the y values is -9 - (-4) = -5 right? :o does that make a little sense maybe?

You can simply use the distance formula if that makes more sense to you. I prefer to relate it to triangles though, triangles are awesome +_+
